JBS Haldane Lecture 2023 Dr Adam Rutherford

The Genetics Society is delighted to announce Dr Adam Rutherford, UCL, as the winner of the 2023 JBS Haldane award.

In his own words, Adam Rutherford is “a lecturer in Biology and Society at University College London. He is the author of books about evolution, genetics, scientific racism and eugenics, and has written and presented many documentaries on BBC television and radio about those sorts of things as well. On BBC Radio 4, Adam presents Start the Week, and with Hannah Fry, the Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry, and was the presenter of Inside Science for almost a decade. He has done several commercial genetic ancestry tests, one of which informed him that he has a 69% chance of having brown eyes. He does have brown eyes, and is otherwise genetically unremarkable.”

We at the Genetics Society do, however, consider Adam to be a remarkable scientist and his contribution to the field as nothing short of vital.
