| The growing world population demands a sustainable intensification of agricultural production across the globe. At the same time there is competition for land use and we have to mitigate both the causes and consequences of climate change. This poses a range of challenges for plant and animal breeders who have to select the genotypes that are best suited to future production circumstances which are uncertain. At the same time, technological and methodological advances provide breeders with a range of tools to accelerate genetic progress and enable ‘precision breeding’. This meeting will bring together scientists from different disciplines related to artificial selection and highlight different aspects on how genetics continues to be a cornerstone of food production.
