Epigenetic mechanisms – including DNA and histone modifications, as well as regulation by non-coding RNAs – have pivotal roles in the nervous system. Aberrant epigenetic regulation also contributes to pathogenesis in various brain disorders. There are a number of recent ground-breaking discoveries of new features of epigenetic marks and regulation that are enriched in the nervous system, leading to an emerging new field of “neuroepigenetics”
